2024 Virginia Bills
Below is a list of Virginia 2024 Bills up for consideration. Source: Virginia’s Legislative Information System
This became a small project in early 2024, when I started looking at bills that were making their way through the Virginia Legislator. I became frustrated clicking “More” to an unknown number of pages of bills. I decided to write a script to start on the first page, parse out each bill name and URL, then identify the “More” link and crawl to the next page, continuing until the last page is crawled. Oncec all of the bill pages have been crawled, the bills name and URL are then formatted into a Hugo Static site generator page. I decided against it, but I even went as far as scripting the automated publishing the newly created page directly to this site allowing for a periodic update of the page as bills were added.
In the end, this was an interesting project to develop to solve a frustration I had come across. One idea that came to mind as a possible future part two is to crawl into each individual bill to incorporate the current status of each bill at the list level like below.
